The Nikon D90 has completely made me rethink my opinion of Nikon. Here are the highlights:
12.3 Mega Pixels
World's first DSLR w/ movie capture
GPS geo-tagging: GP-1 GPS unit (optional) provides automatic real-time geo-tagging but I will use the Eye-fi SSD card with builtin geotagging instead
WAN capability w/ Eye-fi card also has menu for Eye-fi card
On board editing - first of it's kind
3" Live view w/ super high resolution
4.5 frames per sec
11-point AF system with Face Priority

I didn't win?
What do you mean I didn't win? Somehow I expected to get an early call (by EST) sometime this week as I do every time each year from the Nobel Prize committee. I figured one of my contributions to humanity should have garnered me at least a Peace prize by now. I know they are a bit slow on the science side. For example, today's announcement for the prize in Physics came a mere 48 years after the original paper was written. Similar prizes in Chemistry, Medicine, and even literature (go figure) have been awarded well over 50 years after their initial writing. If they do decide to grant me an award posthumously, I would like to thank them in advance.
Well, at least it was announced at the AES convention the release of Pro Tools 8 is slated to be released in the next several months (software for the soul). :)

Garbage in, Garbage out
Be it video or audio, Pro Tools or Aperture, the best results are always obtained when you start out with the best materials, plans, or signals. In my case, I am referring to the Canon XSi (replacing my XTi). These cameras have a memory option that you can set up color/lighting scenarios. It can retain six at a time, but they can each be adjusted on the fly from the onboard controls or manipulated from the computer. I am beginning to take advantage of this feature by the post production corrections I am making in Aperture. Until I can move into the professional class of photographers and afford a new Sekonic color/light meter, I think this technique will suffice. Perhaps it will work for you as well.
The same thing can be said of how I am using the digital audio out of the Mac Pro to feed my Digi002. The sound is as clean and and rich as the original signal. No copper lines to cross interfere and introduce noise into the mix. Digital out from my Mac Pro directly into the Digital in and I am sending multiple channels of sound all at once, instead of having to use 8 separate cables.

New Hadron Collider (my personal super collider)
I just replaced my beloved dual processing Power Mac G4 with the out of this world (self contained super computer) 8 core Harpertown Mac Pro. The only thing it isn't, is portable (w/ 4 HD and 8GB of RAM it weighs around 50 lbs). This is "world get out of my way" and let me develop class computer. They will have to think of new superlatives for this device because you quickly run out, in all the known human languages. I certainly won't be getting much sleep out there for the next 3 years or so. Now that I have the power to control time and space, I think I will develop a cure for cancer, end world hunger, create everlasting peace, and fill young minds with hope first. Welcome to the new Matrix.

Apple, Google, and the Web (the Perfect Storm)
Let's start with the third greatest technology company ever, that would be Google. The extraordinary advertising guys that thought hey if we gave away web services for free perhaps we can persuade advertisers to pay for it. Absolute genius and great apps to boot.
Next, my most beloved company and second best tech company, is Apple. Steve Jobs was born to do what he does and that is innovate. He is like Michael Jackson (part showman), Albert Einstein (part genius), and Tiger Woods (and part machine, relentless) rolled into one. He literally did a Lance Armstrong (brought it back to life) with the company he formed nearly 30 years ago when he returned ten years ago when they were on life support.
And last but not least, here is a shout to the best thing our government has ever done (including sending men into space). They invented this little network called the internet. I am sure they had no real clue at the time of its complete ramifications and the extraordinary things people would use it for but to me it is just the ultimate computing platform.
